My skincare fits in one hand
Here’s the deal. Everyone always asks about my skincare routine. Like for real. I’m not just saying that.
So today, I’m going to break it down for you.
But before we get into that, I need to preface with some really annoying information. Skin is genetic. So check out your parents for clues of what yours is going to be like. In my case, my mom does have really excellent skin. So there is my luck. But I didn’t get her great legs so I’m pretty bitter on that front.
My relationship with skin care began with advertising. I wanted to be like the girls I saw in the Noxzema ads. I can still feel the tingle on my face.
I also got my first facial when I was 13. I was hooked, and have spent the rest of my life finding the facialists that I love. I just love being touched and pampered, it’s a luxury.
But, I’m afraid I must also tell you, dear reader, that I tanned during my teen years. THIS IS NOT A GOOD IDEA. Do not do it. Because in my 40s - hello sun damage. Fuck.
Okay, back to my routine. I’ll preface this by also saying - I’m a bit lazy about glam. I don’t want a lot of steps. Lazy does not mean cheap. I spend money on my skin, though I do love Dove soap and it’s one of my favorite ways to clean my face.
Anyways, here is what I use.
Wash: Is Clinical or Soap
Serum: Vitamin C in AM/Retinol at Night (twice a week)
Serum: Hyaluronic by Dr Strum or Hydrating by iS Clinical
Cream: Augustinus Bader. (Expensive, but worth the money).
I should also really mention how important it is to take care of your neck. It is the one part of my routine that depresses me. If you’re in your 20s, whatever people are telling you to do with your neck, please do it. I didn’t, and now my neck is a tragedy.
Now that I think about it, Nora Ephron did try to warn us all. I just didn’t listen.
So take care of your neck.
Stay out of the sun.
And find a nice cream that makes you feel special.
You deserve it.
