As we all know, I travel a ton for work. Sometimes, up to four times a month.
In 2021, I traveled to New York, Canada, Saudi Arabia, and Spain. And still spent half the year in lockdown.
After so many years of running around the world, I’ve developed a routine of taking a red eye, falling asleep, and waking up to go straight to wherever the job is.
On my flight, I like to be really comfortable. My go-to look is sweats, big comfy socks, and sneakers. Cute but comfy.
But… I also have a secret weapon when it comes to dressing for the plane.
And that’s my trench coat.
Trust me, more than anything else, a trench coat is the biggest secret weapon to solve all your travel woes.
It’s just, instant chic. Instant “I’ve got my shit together.” Instant “take me seriously.”
Think about it. Jeans a tee? Plain. Add a trench? French!
Sweaters and Uggs? Ugh. Add a trench…

Another article for another day.
Now that I’ve told you this, you’ll see them everywhere. Watch any great movie, and there’s some iconic woman in a trench coat. Katherine Hepburn. Sophia Lauren. Brigette Bardot. Jane Fonda. Diana Ross. Yep. They all wore trench coats.
You can be wearing your literal PJs underneath, and still look chic. You give an instant impression that you’re someone with style.
I swear, magical things happen when you’re wearing a trench coat. Your baggage fee disappears. You get promoted to business class. People are suddenly nicer to you, just because you’re wearing a trench coat.
And best of all, they’re affordable. Trench coats do not have to be expensive. I love my H&M trench as much as I love my Max Mara trench. Zara has great trench coats. Thrift stores always have trench coats.
I love my oversized trench coat. I love my slim-flitted. I love mine thrown over a hoodie, over a dress, over jeans…. Over anything.
It’s my secret hack to looking good, no matter what.
Except now I realize, it’s not a secret. Because now you know too.
Here are some of my favorite trench’s as curated by my team at Wishi:
